July 2nd is the Feast Day of Saint Criollo, patron of the tango. He supposedly held off an invading pagan army using only his extraordinary dance skills, for three days and nights, during which he danced with each of the enemy at least twice. Monks took turns playing the music to keep the dancing going. Criollo collapsed in exhaustion at dawn on the fourth day, but not before reinforcements had arrived. The Tangoing Saint has a statue in every dance studio and is considered a true hero of the art form. The Tangoing Monks of Saint Criollo, while a small sect, are generally welcome throughout the land.
