May 15th is the Feast Day of Olag the Missionary, patron of houseboats. It is said that Olag built a church on his boat and traveled from land to land, preaching. He was much beloved by many of his parishioners, but was eventually martyred when his boat was mistaken as the vanguard of an invasion fleet from the north. Wracked by guilt, the community that had martyred him salvaged his boat and built a shrine to Olag. It is visited by mariners the world over.
