An insect long believed to be extinct. It was not until 2001 that a scientist measuring seabird nesting populations happened to spot the droppings of one of the insects, and later returned to find the entire population in the world—twenty four insects.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of zookeepers, the Glorious Walking Stick now has a stable population in captivity. Its survival is due to the Melalueca shrub, which hosted the stick, and was declared a living saint by the Pope in 2011.
