Be Safe, and Remember: You Are Not Alone.

Transcription Edit

Welcome to the Hidden Almanac, I’m Reverend Mord.

Today is July 31st, 2017.

It was on this day that a professor of the Ravencoast School of Divinity set out to rescue his well-meaning but not terribly bright colleague from the clutches of the Thanatopic Embassy. The Embassy’s existence is, for ordinary mortals, a closely guarded secret. Unfortunately some mortals are both strong willed and extraordinarily dim. The embassy was granted its formal status under the auspices of the Shepherd Pope who decreed that if the Lords of Dust were going to go around snatching mortals and attempting to invade the living world, they therefore counted as a hostile nation and thus subject to the laws of war.  Astonishingly the Lords of Dust agreed to this. It has been suggested that the Shepherd Pope was sufficiently beloved of the Divine to append an implied “‘or else” to the end of this decree.

Since the papal decree, the Lords of Dust have communicated through diplomats at the Embassy. This is a great improvement on the previous practice of appearing in a cloud of ash and incense and seizing any unfortunate who might be in the vicinity, turning their blood to dust and using their body as a rapidly disintegrating emissary of their wishes . These wishes are arbitrary and often self-contradictory. Multiple voices have been observed to speak from a single emissary. It is speculated that the Lords of Dust are not united in their desires.

As a matter of principle the Church does not grant most of their requests but traditionally has extended a certain provisional courtesy, particularly on holy days. Relations with the Thanatopic Embassy became much easier following the last great war, when for unknown reasons, the Embassy proceeded to barricade its doors, guard the entrances and refuse all living visitors. This state of affairs has continued for over 50 years. They have ignored us and we have ignored them -  at least until now.

sigh

Apparently Bob arranged for asylum for the Turkey that is bringing down his political rival, and Pastor Drom is … Pastor Drom.  I pray that I'm not too late to prevent a diplomatic incident with the dead.

The Hidden Almanac is brought to you by Red Wombat Resistance Company, purveyors of fine and revolutionary teas. Red Wombat --- “Fight the Power.”
