Summary[]

Today two professors from the Ravencoast School of Divinity find themselves at the base of a flight of stairs. One sees it as glowing, the other does not. Be Safe, and Remember: You Are Not Alone.

Transcription[]

Welcome to the Hidden Almanac, I’m Reverend Mord. Today is September 26th, 2016.

D: Hi, everybody! I’m Archon Drom!

D: So those are stairs.

Those are indeed stairs.

D: Can we go up them? Please?

Why do you wish to go up the stairs?

D: Leaving aside the fact that we’ve been stuck in a catacomb full of spiders for a really long time, and the only conversation is you and the potted plant, and I’m out of pie...leaving all that aside, there is a marvelous glowing silver light up at the top of stairs.

I see no light.

D: What? How can you not see it? It’s full of the hope of humanity and the love of the Fathers and the unending bliss of obedience! Also it’s glowing like anything. I mean, you could read by it.

It is a dark staircase.

D: …maybe it’s a spectrum that beetles can’t see.

(sigh)

D: Seriously, come on! Let’s go! It’ll be awesome! We’ll be in the eternal joy of the Fathers' presence! Also some re-eductation, but that won’t hurt much. And the bliss! Think of the bliss, Mord!

D: You could use a little more bliss, you know. When was the last time you had a really good bliss on?

When I discovered the opening of the spurred pea flowers. They are a small vine, rather weak, and produce only minor seed. They are not a large nectar source, nor even a potent nitrogen fixer. They exist only to be beautiful, and to die into the earth, and to be beautiful again in another season.

D: That’s really lovely, Mord.

Thank you.

D: I’m gonna go fling myself into the light now.

SA: Your archon is raving, Mord.

Ah. Senior Archivist. I wish to report that I believe that we are nearing an important area within the palace complex. The Fathers have put up some kind of defense around it.

D: Don’t be silly, Mord! It’s not a defense! What do they have to defend against? Anybody who can feel that light will know how good they are! How beneficial for humanity! How generally nifty!

We are going to go into the light, Senior Archivist.

SA: This is unwise. You will be captured, tortured, and possibly fed to rabid goats.

Nevertheless, I wish to see what it is guarding. If it is, in fact, the influence of the fathers themselves, then that, too, will be interesting.

SA: Need I remind you that the fate of the world is at stake?

The world is rarely actually at stake. Nevertheless, I will be careful. I do not believe we will learn anything of value without bold action. I shall report back in when I can.

SA: It’s your funeral.

Mord out.

The Hidden Almanac is brought to you by Red Wombat Resistance Company, purveyors of fine and revolutionary teas. Red Wombat --- “Fight the Power.”

Come, Drom. Let us go into the light.

D: woo!

That’s the Hidden Almanac for September 26th, 2016. Be safe. You are not alone.
