Welcome to the Hidden Almanac, I’m Reverend Mord.

Today is May 27th, 2016.

It was on this day, at the dawn of time, that the bone white weasel god was born from the ice that rimed the eyes of the dead giant Ymir. The weasel god woke and found itself in the company of the hare god, which was born of Ymir’s eyebrows, and the jellyfish god, born of the frozen liquid in the giant’s eye.  It killed and ate the hare god, who was born again immediately, but avoided the jellyfish god, because it did not look good to eat.

It is the Feast Day of Uncounted Woes.  Do not count them. Some things are best left unnumbered.

In the garden, it is hot and clear and humid. The roses and the sundrops have recovered from their beating by the rains and the sage is full of bees. Tomatoes and beans are flowering. The cucumbers are…taking a year off to find themselves, apparently. I will be forced to purchase seedlings. The gardener’s life is full of such small misfortunes. But the sunflowers are very large and sturdy this year, and the purslane is a shade of magenta that gladdens the heart even as it sears the corneas.

George the crow has been talking to a fish crow that comes to the garden. The call of fish-crows sounds like laughter. George’s call sounds like weeping. It takes all kinds, in the world of crows. I wonder if either of them are members of the cult of Corvus-Wrax. It has occurred to me that perhaps the crows who came and chanted on the night that Corvus Wrax broke through were trying to hold him back from a place that they knew he would break through. How would one tell? One might well blame scientists who study volcanoes for eruptions, if one did not know their purpose.

It is a puzzle.

The Hidden Almanac is brought to you by Red Wombat Tea Company, purveyors of fine and inaccessible teas. Red Wombat --- “We Dig Tea.”

Also brought to you by the transcendental object at the end of time. At the end of time, there will be no need for public radio, but until then, the object wishes to support this vital service.

That’s the Hidden Almanac for May 27th, 2016. Be safe, and stay out of trouble.
